Job summary

Matrix Service is seeking a skilled pipefitter to layout, install, maintain and repair piping systems across maintenance, tank and new construction projects in the United States. You will read drawings, select materials, set up fabrication, and test pipelines handling air, water, steam, oils and gases, while following safety protocols and Matrix Service training.

The role requires 4+ years in refinery maintenance or construction, strong tool knowledge, and certification/CV training compliance.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years refinery maintenance/turnaround/construction experience.
  • General knowledge of power and hand tools.
  • Pass Pipefitter Skills Test at 70% or NCCER certification.
  • Complete Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training and site training.
  • Maintain active status in the approved drug testing program.

  • Prepare pipe for welded or specialty joints; install supports.
  • Handle materials, equipment and tools to/from job site.
  • Report work performed; identify and mitigate hazards.

Primary Function

Typical Duties
  • Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its Core Values.

  • Receives and understands instructions and prints regarding work assignment.
  • Interprets drawings and sketches. Plans detail of working procedure and selects materials in accordance with engineering standards.
  • Lays out work; calculates dimensions; makes sketches of piping systems when needed.
  • Sets up and operates bending, threading and cutoff equipment and uses hand tools or torch to shape, prepare and fabricate pipe for work to be done.
  • Tests, inspects, dismantles, repairs, replaces or installs any type of high or low pressure piping, tubing, fittings, fixtures and parts for the installation, maintenance and repair of pipelines for air, water, steam, oils, gases, acid, caustics, etc.
  • Assembles and tests a variety of piping components.
  • Sets up for pipe for welded or special type joints.
  • Fastens hangers and supports.
  • Handles or makes provision for the handling of materials, equipment and tools to and from job site in shop or field in connection with work.
  • Makes report of work performed.
  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
  • Perform all other job related duties as requested by supervision.
Physical Requirements
  • Employee will be requires standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting.
  • Will talk and hear and comprehend
  • Must have good dexterity with hands and fingers to perform the precision adjustments of machinery parts and controls.
  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull objects, materials, controls and tools.
  • May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
  • Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off of platforms while utilizing proper fall protection and safety protocols
  • Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision.
  • Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow and wind; and must be able to work for long period of times up to 12 hours a day.
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience
  • Must have a minimum of four (4) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience.
  • Must have a general knowledge of power and hand tools.
  • Must be able to pass the Pipefitter Skills Test at or above 70% or complete the NCCER certification for your craft.
  • Must Complete Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active status within the approved drug testing program.
