Job summary

Matrix Service in Portland, OR is seeking an experienced pipefitter to lay out, install, maintain, and repair piping systems for refinery maintenance, turnaround, construction or mechanical work. You will interpret drawings, select materials, and work with rigging and field measurements.

Candidates must have 4+ years in refinery maintenance, pass the Pipefitter Skills Test or NCCER certification, complete safety trainings, and be able to pass drug testing.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of four (4) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience.
  • General knowledge of basic hand tools.
  • Must be able to pass the Pipefitter Skills Test at or above 70% or complete the NCCER certification for your craft.
  • Complete Company's Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active status within the approved drug testing program.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required in the performance of job duties.

Responsibilities

  • Lays out, installs, maintains, and repairs piping systems for maintenance, tank and new construction.
  • Interpret drawings and sketches; plan working procedures and select materials.
  • Set up and operate bending, threading and cutoff equipment; fabricate pipe.
  • Assembles and tests piping components; apply correct welding or joints.
  • Set up for pipe welding; fasten hangers and supports.
  • Maintain safety standards and complete reports of work performed.

Job Summary

Work under the direction of a Foreman. Lays out, installs, maintains, and repairs all types of piping systems for maintenance, tank and new construction. Individual must possess a high level of skill in the industrial maintenance/turnaround/construction/or mechanical environment.

Job Functions
  • Actively supports the Company's commitment to safety and its "Core Values".
  • Always represents the Company with high moral standards while adhering to the Company's "Code of Business Conduct and Ethics".
  • Perform duties within a precise limit or standard of accuracy (Quality Control).
  • Works well with peers, supervision and the QA/QC Department.
  • Interprets drawings and sketches. Plans detail of working procedure and select materials in accordance with engineering standards.
  • Knowledge of rigging practices and signaling.
  • Ability to perform field verification and take measurements.
  • Knowledge of material specifications and industry standards.
  • Lays out work; calculates dimensions; makes sketches of piping systems when needed.
  • Sets up and operates bending, threading and cutoff equipment and uses hand tools or torch to shape, prepare and fabricate pipe for work to be done.
  • Assembles and tests a variety of piping components.
  • Set up for pipe to be welded or special type joints.
  • Fastens hangers and supports.
  • Handles or makes provision for the handling of materials, equipment and tools to and from job site in shop in connection with work.
  • Make reports of work performed.
  • Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
  • Accountable for performing all work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established quality standards.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required or assigned.

Physical Requirements
  • Employee will be standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting.
  • Must be able to hear, speak, understand and communicate effectively.
  • May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
  • Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work from platforms while utilizing proper fall protection and safety protocols.
  • Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow and wind; and must be able to work for long periods of time, up to 12 hours a day.
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
