Job summary

Lehigh Heavy Forge Corporation in Marinette, WI is seeking a skilled pipefitter to remove, repair, lay out, fabricate, install and test marine piping systems per ABS, MSC and other standards.

You will work with various shop equipment, perform tank blanking and pressure tests, and ensure safety and proper joint fit-up using silver brazing techniques. This position requires shifting A/B/C schedules and ability to lift 50 lbs.

Qualifications

  • Must comprehend instructions, drawings and general correspondence.
  • Knowledge of ship terminology and compartment naming.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and Navy/MSC/ABS standards.
  • Measure or template pipe for fabrication.
  • Fit up pipes with correct type and ensure a strain-free connection.
  • Follow safety standards and lock-out/tag-out procedures.
  • Inspect work for defects and obtain supervision approval when needed.
  • Strong understanding of joint fit-up and silver brazing theory.

Responsibilities

Job Description

Responsible for removing, repairing, targeting, laying out, fabricating, installing, and testing of marine piping systems including auxiliary salt water, fire main, potable water, hydraulic, compressed air, fuel oil, lube oil, engine exhaust etc. in accordance with work item specifications, military standards and drawings and other regulatory body standards such as ABS, Military Sealift Command, etc.

Repair, fabrication, and construction include the use of various shop equipment and tooling such as table saws, pipe threading machines, bending machines, drill presses, and brazing equipment.

Additional tasks associated with this position include blanking and pressure testing of tanks.

Requirements
  • Must be able to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence.
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of ship terminology and ship compartment naming convention.
  • Must be able to interpret drawings, specifications, and Navy/MSC/ABS standard items and manuals.
  • Measure or template pipe for fabrication.
  • Blank systems in accordance with applicable safety standards.
  • Fit up new pipe using the proper fit up type in accordance with specifications.
  • Ensure a strain free fit-up to pumps or other connecting equipment.
  • Blank tanks and accomplish boundary air tests.
  • Accomplish or verify Lock-out Tag-out requirements before commencing.
  • Inspect work for defects before turning the job over to correct fit-ups as required. Confer with supervision before correcting deficiencies.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of experience with joint fit-up.
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of Silver Brazing theory.
  • Must be able to certify in:
  • MT Braze (B-1)
  • MT Braze (B-2)
  • Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of equipment and work processes used in marine pipe fabrication, repair, and targeting.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and must understand the US customary and metric measurement systems.
  • Must be physically and medically capable to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the job as prescribed under OSHA PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be a U.S. person.
  • Must be able to work at heights.
  • Must be able to work in tanks and confined spaces for pipe installation and testing.
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions.
  • Must be available to work A (5am-3pm Mon. - Thru.), B (4pm - 2am Mon. - Thru.), and C (5pm - 5am Fri. - Sun.) shifts.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs
