Job summary

Walashek Industrial & Marine Inc. in Parkersburg, WV seeks a skilled Pipefitter to read prints, cut, bend, and install pipe aboard ships and in onshore systems. You will work under the Lead man or Foreman and must pass safety tests.

You’ll handle torch and tac-weld work, brazing, and use tape measures with strict TWIC/DBIDS requirements. This full-time role includes health benefits, paid time off, and retirement plans.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1-year certificate from college or technical school or equivalent experience.
  • Background check required; TWIC and DBIDS credential eligibility.
  • Drug screening required.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out and fabricate piping; install into systems within guidelines.
  • Read and interpret drawings, manuals, and weld symbols.
  • Perform tack-welds and inspection; ensure corrective actions as needed.
  • Work with hand and power tools; follow safety procedures.
  • Operate in marine environments aboard ships and onshore facilities.
  • Collaborate with team to meet daily goals under supervision.

Job description

The Pipefitter is responsible for comprehending and utilizing blueprints, sketches, drawings, technical manuals, and work process instructions in order to measure, cut, thread and bend pipe (of multiple material types) to required shape using hand and power tools. This position must also have the ability to install prepared pipe into systems. This role reports directly to the Lead man or Foreman as assigned.

Essential Functions
  1. Lays out and fabricates piping and possess the ability to install into established piping systems within technical guidelines.
  2. Read and interpret basic drawings, technical manuals and weld symbols.
  3. Pass tack-weld test procedure
  4. Inspection of work, identification of potential problems, initiation of corrective actions.
  5. Perform as a productive working team member that meets daily goals set by the supervisor.
  6. Must possess experience in the trade and knowledge of ship terminology
  7. Must have working knowledge of procedures, strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to follow directions
  8. Use and read a tape measure
  9. Lay out material
  10. Fit -up material
  11. Prepare for rigging of material
  12. Comprehensive Torch and Tac-Weld Work
  13. Use a radius gage
  14. Use hand power tools
  15. Conduct Lock-Out/ Tag-Out
  16. General Knowledge of USN Standard Items
  17. Possess the ability to bend Pipe mandrel pipe bender
  18. Proficiency in brazing
  19. Understand rolling off set
Necessary Equipment Operation, but not limited to the following
  1. Blow torches, motorized cutting torches, pattern cutting torches and welding torches
  2. Taps or dies
Work Environment

This job operates inside and aboard ships both offshore and onshore as well as confined spaces. While performing some duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Must wear hearing, eye, head protection and proper PPE when required. Visits may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary depending on schedule and job contract. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience
  1. High School Diploma or GED Equivalency
  2. One-year certificate from college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and/ or industrial pipefitting experience
  3. Must pass background check and be TWIC card and DBIDS credential eligible
  4. Must pass drug screening
