Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat is seeking a Pipe Welding Instructor for onsite support at the Philadelphia Focus Factory. A background in welding, instruction, and safety oversight is required to lead classroom and hands-on training, evaluate student performance, and coordinate with site leadership.

The role includes standard first shift hours with possible overtime and travel, a requirement to maintain NDT qualifications and to adapt to evolving training strategies and technologies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 4+ years of welding trade experience.
• 2+ years of work experience at Electric Boat.
• Instructing/teaching experience (formal or informal).
• Leadership experience (working leader, MDU, SS …ETC).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office programs.

Job description

Focus Factory Training (D794) is currently looking for an organized, self-motivated Pipe Welding Instructor for onsite support for strategic sourcing initiatives at the Philadelphia, PA Focus Factories. This position will report to the Chief of Training for Strategic Sourcing at the Rhoads site.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Instructing multiple welding related classroom courses including Workmanship, AWPSS and Safety Briefs
• Instructing multiple pipe related classroom courses
• Provide quality oversight of supplier embedded instructors to support site training needs
• Directing and assessing hands on training with practice and tests
• Enforcing safety rules and regulations in training and during deck plate audits
• Assessing student performance & identifying non-conformance to policies, procedures and technical documents
• Supporting various course content reviews and related activities
• Conducting assessments as needed/scheduled
• Manage class rosters and training OQE submittal paperwork
• Meeting with Focus Factory Leadership regarding student performance as needed
• Consistently grade tests and quizzes to ensure knowledge capture and understanding of training topics
• Communicate with other team members to advance work & communicate issues
• Supporting special training projects as required
• Support the Training department goals and objectives with other responsibilities as assigned
• Must complete and maintain NDT requirements for Welding Qualifications
• Ready to learn and take on additional responsibilities and duties as needed

Work Schedule

The Selected Candidate Will Be Assigned The Following Schedule

• General first shift hours (7:00am – 3:30pm) with flexibility to adjust hours to support 2nd & 3rd shifts as needed with flexibility to support
• Ability to work additional overtime as directed (including weekends)
• Ability to support business travel approximately 20+% annually

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 4+ years of welding trade experience
• 2+ years of work experience at Electric Boat
• Instructing/teaching experience (formal or informal)
• Leadership experience (working leader, MDU, SS …ETC)

Preferred Requirements

• Advanced educational course work including certifications, associates or other advanced education degree
• Proficient in 3 or more welding processes
• Experience with non-destructive testing, AWPSS & SRT
• Experience with various business systems, i. e. SRT/LMS, PQS, ATA
• Experience with Microsoft Office programs, i ncluding Outlook, Excel, Word and OneNote
• Proficiency virtual and/or remote technologies
