Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Philadelphia is seeking a Structural Welding Instructor for onsite support at the Rhoads site. This role trains supplier staff in welding processes and related courses, with a strong focus on safety and procedural compliance.

The instructor will lead classroom and hands-on training, oversee embedded instructors, and coordinate with Focus Factory Leadership to assess student performance. A welding background and teaching ability are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 4+ years of welding trade experience.
• 2+ years of work experience at Electric Boat.
• Instructing/teaching experience (formal or informal).
• Leadership experience (working leader, MDU, SS ETC).

Responsibilities

• Instructing multiple welding related classroom courses including Workmanship, AWPSS and Safety Briefs.
• Instructing multiple structural related classroom courses.
• Provide quality oversight of supplier embedded instructors to support site training needs.
• Directing and assessing hands on training with practice and tests.
• Enforcing safety rules and regulations in training and during deck plate audits.
• Assessing student performance & identifying nonconformance to policies, procedures and technical documents.
• Supporting various course content reviews and related activities.
• Conducting assessments as needed/scheduled.
• Manage class rosters and training OQE submittal paperwork.
• Meeting with Focus Factory Leadership regarding student performance as needed.
• Consistently grade tests and quizzes to ensure knowledge capture and understanding of training topics.
• Communicate with other team members to advance work & communicate issues.
• Supporting special training projects as required.
• Support the Training department goals and objectives with other responsibilities as assigned.
• Must complete and maintain NDT requirements for Welding Qualifications.
• Ready to learn and take on additional responsibilities and duties as needed.

Overview

Focus Factory Training (D794) is currently looking for an organized, self-motivated Structural Welding Instructor for onsite support for strategic sourcing initiatives at the Philadelphia, PA Focus Factories. This position will report to the Chief of Training for Strategic Sourcing at the Rhoads site.

The instructor will be part of a team, responsible for the training of supplier staff in various courses related to various structural welding processes and wire types, as well as additional welding related courses. Qualified candidates will have a strong commitment to Safety and Procedural Compliance, be a self-starter and possess strong verbal & written communication skills. Candidates must also be driven by a desire to develop themselves and others, as well as possess the ability to multi-task with a friendly, approachable customer service demeanor.

Work Schedule

The selected candidate will be assigned the following schedule:

• General first shift hours (7:00am 3:30pm) with flexibility to adjust hours to support 2nd & 3rd shifts as needed with flexibility to support
• Ability to work additional overtime as directed (including weekends)
• Ability to support business travel approximately 20+% annually

• Experience with Microsoft Office programs i ncluding Outlook, Excel, Word and OneNote
• Business Travel/EWA experience
• Proficiency virtual and/or remote technologies
