Job summary

Thompson Construction Group seeks a skilled pipe welder to lay out, fit, and weld fabricated components. You will join metal pieces per blueprints and procedures, using TIG and stick welding across multiple positions to meet project specs.

You must read and interpret drawings, handle safety gear, and work outdoors with potential weekend shifts. The role offers medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k), and career development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must be able to TIG and stick weld on stainless and/or carbon (varies by site).
• Must pass required weld tests (varies by site).
• Must be willing to work outside craft.
• Prior exposure to hot materials and strong light environment.
• Must wear safety gear (goggles, masks, face shields, safety shoes).
• Able to read, write and communicate clearly with supervisor and teammates.

Responsibilities

• Lay out, position, align, and secure parts prior to assembly.
• Examine work pieces for defects and measure to specifications.
• Weld components using multiple processes per welding procedure or supervisor instructions.
• Operate welding equipment including adjusting amperage, voltage, polarity, and pulses.
• Begin power supply, strike arc, and deposit weld metal.
• Move along weld lines to form specified fusion and bead.
• Weld in various positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead).
• Inspect weld bead size and other specifications.
• Prepare parts for welding and perform cleaning or degreasing as needed.
• Repair damaged parts and fill holes; remove excess weld material.
