Job summary

CTS Complete Technical Services in Texas seeks a senior Pipe Stress Engineer with 10+ years of piping stress analysis experience to support brownfield projects in the Oil & Gas industry. Proficiency with CAESAR II and strong ASME code knowledge are essential.

You will independently perform complex stress analyses from concept through construction, review layouts and drawings, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver practical, code-compliant solutions.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience in piping stress engineering/analysis.

• Strong knowledge of piping flexibility and stress analysis principles.
• Demonstrated experience with complex piping systems, equipment connections, and piping support design.
• Strong understanding and application of ASME codes and industry standards, including: ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, ASME Section VIII, ASME B16 series.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Pipe Stress Engineer with 10+ years of piping stress analysis experience to support brownfield projects within the Oil & Gas industry. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with CAESAR II, a strong understanding of applicable ASME codes and standards, and the ability to independently perform complex piping stress analyses from concept through detailed engineering and construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed piping stress analyses for Oil & Gas brownfield and facility modification projects.
• Develop and evaluate piping stress models using CAESAR II.
• Analyze piping systems for sustained, operating, thermal, occasional, and seismic loads.
• Evaluate equipment nozzle loads and ensure piping systems meet applicable equipment and project requirements.
• Perform flexibility and stress analyses for critical and complex piping systems.
• Review and assess existing piping systems and determine impacts associated with tie-ins, reroutes, equipment modifications, and other brownfield changes.
• Coordinate with piping, mechanical, structural, process, and other engineering disciplines to develop practical and constructible solutions.
• Evaluate pipe supports, restraints, guides, anchors, springs, and other support configurations.
• Review vendor data and equipment specifications for compatibility with piping stress requirements.
• Prepare technical reports, calculations, stress isometrics, and other engineering documentation.
• Review piping layouts, P&IDs, isometric drawings, and equipment drawings for stress-related concerns.
• Identify potential overstress conditions, excessive displacement, vibration concerns, and equipment nozzle loading issues.
• Provide engineering recommendations and participate in design reviews, model reviews, and project meetings.
• Support field engineering and construction teams with piping stress-related questions and modifications.
• Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and project requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience with complex piping systems, equipment connections, and piping support design.
• Strong understanding and application of applicable ASME codes and industry standards, including:
• ASME B31.3 – Process Piping
• ASME B31.4 – Pipeline Transportation Systems for Liquids and Slurries
• ASME B31.8 – Gas Transmission and Distribution Piping Systems
• ASME Section VIII – Pressure Vessels, as applicable
• ASME B16 series standards, as applicable
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, piping isometrics, equipment drawings, plot plans, and piping layouts.
• Experience working in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and make sound engineering judgments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with NozzlePRO for equipment nozzle flexibility and local stress analysis.
• Experience with API 610, API 617, API 618, and other applicable API standards.
• Experience with rotating and static equipment piping systems.
• Experience with pipe support design and spring support analysis.
• Experience with seismic, wind, slug flow, water hammer, PSV reaction, and other occasional load cases.
• Previous experience working on operating facilities and managing brownfield tie-ins and modifications.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate is a senior-level piping stress engineer who can take ownership of complex stress analysis assignments with minimal supervision. This individual should be comfortable working on existing operating facilities, identifying constraints in brownfield environments, and developing practical solutions that satisfy code requirements while minimizing impacts to existing equipment and piping.

Strong CAESAR II expertise is essential, while NozzlePRO experience is a bonus.
