Job summary

University of Florida in Gainesville is seeking a Pipe/Steamfitter to repair and maintain steam systems, piping, and related equipment. Work includes insulation, blueprint interpretation and occasional driving duties.

The role requires completion of an approved apprenticeship or equivalent combination of education and experience, plus safe operation of welding and piping tools. Regular hours are 7:00–3:30, with emergency and shift variations as needed.

Qualifications

• Completion of an approved apprenticeship in pipe/steam fitting or equivalent education with four years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of installing, repairing and maintaining steam systems and piping.
• Ability to read blueprints and coordinate work assignments.
• Health assessment and background checks required.

Responsibilities

• Repairs/replaces steam supply and return lines, including insulation.
• Makes minor welding repairs on piping and structural.
• Layout and weld material from blueprints; drives UF vehicle.
• Repairs/replaces steam traps and expansion joints.
• Repairs/replaces tubes in hot water tanks and heat exchangers.
• Repairs/replaces circulating pumps.
• Maintains electric and gas welding equipment.
• Insulates and/or repairs insulation on steam lines, hot water tanks, and exchangers.
• Preventive maintenance.
• Proof of State of Florida Class E Operators license required within sixty days of employment.
• Criminal Background and Post-Offer Physical Assessment required.
• Normal work schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Total 40 hours per week. Emergency work as needed; Swing Shift, On-Call/Stand-By as required.
