Classification and Qualifications
- Classification Minimum Requirements: Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in pipe/steam fitting; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

- Preferred: KNOWLEDGE OF: Procedures and methods for installing, repairing and maintaining steam systems of various sizes and types of pipes; steam fitting and basic welding (gas and electric)
- Skill In: Using hand, bench and power tools; in cutting, threading and joining pipes; in insulating water lines and valves.
- Ability To: Select appropriate sizes and types of pipes; to monitor steam systems; to read blueprints and schematic drawings; plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; to communicate effectively and to maintain effective working relationships.
Responsibilities
- Repairs/replaces steam supply and return lines, including insulation.
- Works in attics, basements, crawl spaces and other similar places
- Makes minor welding repairs on piping and structural
- Layout and weld material from blueprints. Drives UF vehicle
- Repairs/replaces steam traps and expansions joints
- Repairs/replaces tubes in hot water tanks and heat exchangers
- Repairs/replaces circulating pumps
- Maintains electric and gas welding equipment
- Insulates and/or repairs insulation on steam lines, hot water tanks, and exchangers. Wears appropriate safety equipment and follows established safety practices and procedures
- Preventive maintenance
- Proof of State of Florida Class E Operators license required within sixty days of employment.
Schedule, Salary, and Requirements
- Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Total 40 hours per week.
- Emergency work as needed; Swing Shift, On-Call/Stand-By as required. 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. day shifts; 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight evening shifts.
- Expected Salary: $24.03 to $28.14 Per Hour; Based on experience
