Job summary

Shirley Contracting Company, LLC is hiring for a Full-Time, year-round role on multiple job sites in Virginia. You will work on waterline and sewer projects, install and align pipes, and operate grade instruments.

Candidates should have at least a year on a utility crew, read grade sheets, and be able to work outdoors in all seasons. You’ll collaborate with equipment operators and crews, train others in pipe laying, and uphold health and safety standards while supporting project timelines and

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year on a utility crew.
• Shoring and excavation knowledge required.
• Ability to read cut/grade sheets.
• Work in outdoor environments in all seasons.
• Communicate effectively with operators and coworkers.
• Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Install and repair waterlines, sanitary and storm sewers.
• Align and position pipes for joining.
• Connect pipe pieces and seal joints.
• Use instruments like lasers and grade rods.
• Check slopes for conformance with requirements.
• Assist with covering pipes with earth or other materials.
• Cut pipes to required lengths.
• Dig trenches to required depths with hand tools or machinery.
• Grade and level trench bases with tamping tools.
• Work in confined spaces and indoors/outdoors as needed.
• Train others in pipe laying and provide supervision.
• Maintain health and safety policies and positive relations.
