Job Overview

Support and consistently reinforce the Mission and Core Values of M&D Mechanical Contractors, Inc. A pipefitter specializes in the design, installation, fabrication, maintenance, and repair of industrial and commercial piping systems. They interpret blueprints and specifications to accurately assemble and install systems that transport substances such as water, steam, chemicals, and fuel. Beyond installation, they test systems for integrity and safety, ensuring compliance with standards. Their expertise is vital in industries like oil and gas, power generation, manufacturing, and construction, often collaborating with other tradespeople.

Note: NO PER DIEM OR RELOCATION AVAILABLE. Successful candidate must reside within 60 miles of Decatur, AL.

Top Out Journeyman Base Rate: $32.00/hr + $2.00 site-specific pay (FBI/MSIC only, rate dependent on benefit election)

Functional Duties & Requirements
  • Evaluate blueprints, plans, and specifications for piping requirements.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and prepare pipes for welding.
  • Assemble and install piping systems per specifications.
  • Test systems using hydrostatic, leak, high-pressure, or x-ray testing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair faulty systems.
  • Follow safety regulations and standards.
  • Collaborate with welders, plumbers, and contractors.
  • Maintain records of work, materials, and relevant data.
Job Specific Duties
  • Select pipe types and sizes based on material and pressure requirements.
  • Use tools like lifts, pipe benders, torches, and saws.
  • Interpret drawings and symbols, and understand building codes.
  • Perform welding or brazing to connect pipes.
  • Install flanges, fittings, and insulation.
  • Perform system flushing, inspection, and pressure testing.
  • Use manual or hydraulic benders for pipe bending.
  • Recognize appropriate materials for specific applications.
  • Install and repair valves.
Qualifications Standards
  • High school diploma or GED, or trade school.
  • Completion of M&D apprentice program preferred.
  • Experience in pipe fabrication.
  • Ability to read/write English, follow instructions, and perform basic math.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Understanding of pipe systems and components.
  • Ability to read project drawings.
  • Attention to detail and organization.
  • Self-check skills and ability to manage tasks.
  • Team player attitude.
Physical Involvement

Requires climbing, balancing, reaching, lifting 30-50 lbs, standing, walking, and other physical activities.

Mental Involvement

Requires following procedures, basic math, planning, reading, writing, and safety hazard recognition.

Work Environment Factors
