Job Description

JOB TITLE: Plumber

SCA OCCUP: 23810 PLUMBER, MAINTENANCE

SALARY GRADE: Federal Wage Determination or Collective Bargaining Agreement

FLSA STATUS: Nonexempt

POSITION SUMMARY: The Plumber, Maintenance assembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes. They study building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations. This worker inspects structures to ascertain obstructions, locates and marks pipe and passage holes, and cuts openings in walls and floors using appropriate tools. They cut and thread pipes, bend pipes to required angles, and perform related tasks.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  1. Clear all types and sizes of drains with cable and jetting machines.
  2. Repair or replace all types of faucets, flush valves, and toilets.
  3. Troubleshoot hot water issues.
  4. Repair or replace garbage disposals.
  5. Perform repairs on water and sewer lines inside and outside buildings.
  6. Other duties and projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of plumbing tools, equipment, materials, and codes.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of operation of plumbing equipment such as pumps, boilers, and heaters.
  • Skills in installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems.
  • Five years of responsible plumbing experience.
  • Computer literacy including word processing, spreadsheets, Internet, and presentation software.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to develop technical training programs and build effective relationships.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000 standards.

CERTIFICATES REQUIRED:

  • Must meet all local, state, federal, and licensing requirements for plumbing services.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may experience physical demands such as exposure to toxic substances, standing, walking, bending, stooping, noise, lifting, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed on job sites in construction environments with various tools and equipment.
