Job summary

BioMADE in Hayward, CA seeks a Process Engineer to bridge client fermentation and downstream processes into production workflows. You will translate transfer packages into batch records, procedures, and control parameters while supporting campaigns and data-led improvements.

You will collaborate with Operations, Projects Lead, and Lab management to ensure safe, efficient production and robust documentation; a key technical interface for client interactions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, or related field.
• 5 years experience as process engineer in fermentation or bioprocess development or manufacturing environments.
• Experience in technology transfer, scale‑up methodologies, process development, or production support (commercial or CDMO scale).
• Sound knowledge of Fermentation fundamentals and downstream separation technologies.
• Experience in Data analysis systems, process monitoring, and process troubleshooting acumen.
• Strong safety mindset with demonstrated commitment to safe work practices.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to operations, laboratory, maintenance personnel, and customers/clients.
• Ability to translate complex processes into operational procedures and guidelines; lead client interactions and project coordination.

Responsibilities

• Translate client technology transfer packages into executable production processes.
• Convert client process expectations into batch records, batch recipes, operating procedures, and control parameters.
• Ensure process documentation and training position the Operations team to execute production campaigns safely.
• Prepare process summary reports and data packages after client campaigns; include performance metrics and deviations.
• Support planning and assessment of bench-scale trials using fermentation and downstream equipment; demonstrate viability of transfer packages.
• Identify gaps prior to pilot-scale production and assist in data generation for fermentation, downstream separation, and product recovery.
• Serve as primary technical expert for process unit operations; train shift supervisors and operators on operation principles, procedures, safeguards, and troubleshooting.
• Prepare SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and reference documents for consistent operation.
• Collaborate with shift supervisors to address observations and recommendations; promote continuous improvement.
• Create dashboards and metrics from plant data; provide troubleshooting support with Operations and Maintenance.
• Assist in startup, commissioning, and critical campaigns; support safety discussions and risk mitigation.
• Lead client interactions and project coordination as needed.
• Foster open communication and continuous improvement across the team.
