Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred and demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Knowledge of AS400, Microsoft Office, DYMS, BLU systems.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and safe driving practices.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate safety of each employee/driver daily.
  • Supervise pickups/deliveries to ensure efficient use of staff/equipment.
  • Manage driver schedules and time off requests.
  • Coordinate with Operations Manager to meet daily/weekly objectives.
  • Provide analyses and improvement suggestions for shift operations.

As a Pickup & Delivery Supervisor at Old Dominion Freight Line, you'll oversee a team of dedicated drivers, ensuring shipments are handled safely, efficiently, and on time. Old Dominion Freight Line is currently looking for a Pick up & Delivery Supervisor to join our OD Family Culture. Our P & D Supervisor is responsible for supervising drivers while coordinating the timely pickup and delivery of shipments in a fast-paced environment within the local operation to meet department/shift and service center standards for safety, quality, efficiency, cost, service and delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and evaluate the safety of each employee and/or driver on a daily basis
  • Manages, assigns and supervises pickups and deliveries to employees in the area to ensure proper utilization of employees, equipment, loading and unloading while meeting OD and customer expectations
  • Manages all driver work schedules and time off request
  • Closely works with the Operations Manager/Ast. SC Manager and/or Service Center Manager to ensure alignment in meeting daily/weekly/monthly and yearly business objectives
  • Provide analyses, suggestions and ideas for the improvement of operations within the shift, department and facility
  • Complete the various company and government forms utilized in freight movement such as shipping manifests, freight bills, inter-terminal movement forms (ITM's) and exception forms
  • Constantly uses OD's proprietary technology system permitting consistent monitoring of shipment locations as freight moves through the various terminals while communicating continuously throughout the day with drivers/associates, customers and team members verbally and through other computer operating systems
  • Provides positive and constructive feedback to employees on a continual basis regarding ROI, MPH, Stops Per Hour, return shipments, missed shipments, delivery/pick up errors, overall productivity, etc. This also includes handling disciplinary action as needed at the discretion of the supervisor
  • Ensure compliance with local state, federal, federal safety regulations, as well as OSHA compliance, and DOT compliance
  • Ensures that pickups and deliveries are made to minimize missed pickups while working within DOT hours of service regulations
  • Schedules pick up and deliveries to ensure freight arrives back at the service center to meet schedules
  • Operates AS400 system, BLU system, DYMS, ERSI and any other computer/internal freight monitoring systems used within the company to monitor freight movement
  • Ensures, when practical, that shipments are head loaded or through loaded to destination at initial pick up
  • Conducts shift meetings as needed
  • Make quick and informed decisions based on the schedules and communicates schedule to affected employees
  • Inspects working conditions of tools and equipment needed for safe operation within the area and directs the correction of any improper or adverse condition that exists
  • Comprehends and ensures compliance with company and government regulations
  • Works regularly scheduled shift as well as another shift/s as needed. Must be available to work depending upon customer pick up and deliveries scheduled
  • Interacts with customers via phone and email
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Some College preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2 years working operations experience preferably in the transportation industry
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of AS400, Microsoft Office, DYMS and BLU systems
  • Knowledge of general DOT regulations
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Compensation Range: The referenced salary range is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training, skill level, and state/local wage requirements. ($75,552-$94,440)

Working Days: Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday,Friday,Saturday,Sunday

Working Shift: Early Morning Work days/shifts may change based on scheduling and business needs and are provided as guidelines at the time of posting.
