Job summary

First United Methodist Church in Morganton seeks a passionate leader to guide our music and worship ministry. You will lead congregational music, direct the Chancel Choir and Handbells, and collaborate with the Senior Pastor and staff to craft weekly worship and special services.

A Bachelor's degree in music is required, with graduate work in worship ministry preferred. The role is 30 hours per week, with a salary commensurate with skills and experience, and it offers the chance to grow vibrant

Responsibilities

Job description

First United Methodist Church – Morganton, a downtown, forward-looking congregation of 325 active members with 230 worshippers between our online and in person platforms, seeks an outstanding leader for our music and worship ministry. Our church welcomes all persons, and our mission is Make Disciples Of Jesus Christ And Give Ourselves In His Service. We are a Lighthouse Congregation of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.

The work of the position includes: lead and direct congregational music with a blend of traditional and modern music styles; direct the Chancel Choir and Chancel Handbells; plan and design, with Senior Pastor and staff, Sunday worship and special services; renew and grow the children’s and youth music ministry; and promote and coordinate other worship arts in the congregation. 10:30am Sunday service is blended with traditional and modern worship elements, and other special services throughout the year.

Instruments of the church include: Miller pipe organ [3 manuals / 27 stops / 33 ranks]; Kawai RX-2 grand piano; 5 octaves handbells / 3 octaves choirchimes; numerous drums, keyboards, Orff and other instruments. Large music library.

Bachelor’s degree required, with major in music preferred. Graduate-level work in music / ministry / worship studies is a plus.

30 hours per week. Salary commensurate with skills and experience.

Position available on or before July 1, 2023. Position may be divided if candidates gifts / circumstances warrant.
