Job summary

Tetra Tech Digital Systems in Houston, TX is seeking a PI Developer to join our industrial data and historian practice. You will build and maintain AVEVA PI System solutions, configure AF elements, analyses, and interfaces to transform raw SCADA data into actionable operational information.

You will work on dashboards, analytics, and reporting while collaborating with project teams. This hybrid role requires 3–6 years experience and willingness to travel to client sites up to 25%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
• 3+ years of hands‑on AVEVA PI System development (PI Data Archive, PI AF, PI Vision, Interfaces/Connectors).
• Experience building AF templates and AF Analytics at scale.
• Working knowledge of SCADA/DCS environments and industrial protocols (OPC UA/DA, Modbus).
• Proficiency with SQL; scripting in Python, PowerShell, or .NET/C#.
• Strong data-modeling discipline, documentation habits, and governance awareness.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable with client-facing delivery.
• Valid driver’s license and eligibility to travel to client sites.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain PI Asset Framework (AF) elements, hierarchies, and attributes.
• Create AF Analyses, Event Frames, and Notifications for downtime, deferment, and KPI use cases.
• Configure PI Interfaces/Connectors (OPC DA/UA, Modbus, RDBMS, UFL); ensure buffering and failover.
• Develop PI Vision displays, dashboards, and operator screens; support PI DataLink reporting.
• Support PI Data Archive administration: tag naming, backfills, archive management, data quality.
• Integrate PI data with downstream systems and analytics with PI Web API, AF SDK, PI SQL Data Access.
• Write automation scripts in Python/PowerShell/.NET to deploy templates and configurations.
• Participate in requirements gathering, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and cutover activities.
• Produce design documents, configuration records, test protocols, and SOPs.
• Provide Tier 2/3 support and training to client operations teams.

We are currently seeking a PI Developer to join our industrial data and historian practice.

Your Role

The PI Developer builds and maintains AVEVA PI System solutions that turn raw SCADA/OT data into contextualized, trusted operational information. You will work as part of a project delivery team — configuring asset models, analytics, and visualizations that support production surveillance, exception-based operations, and enterprise reporting for our clients.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain PI Asset Framework (AF) element templates, hierarchies, attributes, and data.
• Build AF Analyses, Event Frames, and Notifications supporting downtime, deferment, exceedance, and KPI use cases.
• Configure, test, and troubleshoot PI Interfaces and Connectors (OPC DA/UA, Modbus, RDBMS, UFL), including buffering and failover.
• Develop PI Vision displays, dashboards, and operator screens; support PI DataLink and Excel-based reporting for end users.
• Support PI Data Archive administration tasks: tag creation and naming standards, point configuration, backfills, archive management, and data quality validation.
• Integrate PI data with downstream systems and analytics platforms using PI Web API, AF SDK, PI SQL Data Access (RTQP), PI Integrator and AVEVA Connect
• Write automation and utility scripts in Python, PowerShell, or C# to support bulk configuration and template deployment.
• Participate in requirements gathering, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and cutover activities.
• Produce and maintain design documents, configuration records, test protocols, and standard operating procedures.
• Provide Tier 2/3 support, knowledge transfer, and training to client operations and support teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience considered.
• 3+ years of hands‑on AVEVA PI System (OSIsoft PI) development — PI Data Archive, PI AF, PI Vision, and PI Interfaces/Connectors.
• Demonstrated experience building AF templates and AF Analytics at scale.
• Working knowledge of SCADA/DCS environments and industrial protocols (OPC UA/DA, Modbus).
• Proficiency with SQL; scripting experience in Python, PowerShell, or .NET/C#.
• Strong data-modeling discipline, documentation habits, and attention to naming and governance standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable in client-facing delivery settings.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to client sites and field locations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Oil and gas experience (upstream unconventional, midstream gathering, or gas processing).
• AVEVA/OSIsoft PI certification or completed PI System Administration / Asset Framework training.
• Familiarity with AVEVA System Platform, Wonderware, Ignition, or other SCADA/HMI platforms.
• Experience with cloud data services (Azure/AWS), PI Integrator for Business Analytics, or time-series data lakes.
• Exposure to production surveillance, allocation, or energy balance workflows.
