Job summary

PI Application Engineer role focusing on AVEVA PI System deployments to enable real-time operational intelligence across facilities. You will design, implement, and support PI data infrastructure, including architecture, interfaces, and governance.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on OSIsoft / AVEVA PI System administration or engineering.
• Proficiency with PI Data Archive, PI AF, PI Vision, and PI DataLink.
• Experience building PI interfaces (OPC DA/UA, Modbus, DCS integrations).
• Strong understanding of industrial control systems and OT/IT data integration.
• Excellent communication skills across technical and operations teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and maintain PI System components (PI Data Archive, PI AF, PI Event Frames, PI Vision).
• Develop and manage PI interfaces to integrate with OT/SCADA, DCS, PLCs, and data sources.
• Collaborate with process engineers and IT to translate requirements into PI-based solutions.
• Build and maintain PI AF hierarchies, analytics, and notifications for operational decisions.
• Troubleshoot data quality, performance, and connectivity issues with root-cause analysis.
• Support PI rollout to new sites, provide user training and documentation.
• Contribute to PI governance, naming conventions, security, and data management.

Job description

We are looking for a skilled PI Application Engineer to join our team and serve as a subject matter expert for OSIsoft PI System (now AVEVA PI System) deployments across our organization. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting PI-based data infrastructure that enables real-time operational intelligence across our facilities and business units.

Key Responsibilities

• You will design, configure, and maintain PI System components including PI Data Archive, PI Asset Framework (PI AF), PI Event Frames, and PI Vision.
• You will develop and manage PI interfaces and connectors to integrate with OT/SCADA systems, DCS, PLCs, and other data sources.
• Working closely with process engineers, operations teams, and IT stakeholders, you will gather requirements and translate them into effective PI-based solutions.
• You will build and maintain PI AF hierarchies, analytics, and notifications to support operational decision-making.
• You will also troubleshoot performance issues, data quality problems, and connectivity failures, and provide root-cause analysis and resolution.
• Supporting the rollout of PI to new sites and business units, you will conduct user training and develop documentation.
• You will contribute to best practices for PI governance, naming conventions, security, and data management.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on experience with OSIsoft / AVEVA PI System administration or engineering.
• Proficiency with PI Data Archive, PI AF, PI Vision, and PI DataLink.
• Experience building PI interfaces (OPC DA/UA, Modbus, DCS-specific, etc.).
• Solid understanding of industrial control systems, process data, and OT/IT integration.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across both technical and operational teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• AVEVA PI System certification(s).
• Experience with PI Integrator for Business Analytics or PI Web API.
• Familiarity with SQL, Python, or other scripting languages for data extraction and reporting.
• Background in a relevant industry such as oil & gas, utilities, manufacturing, or water/wastewater.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices in OT environments.
