Job summary

Dayton Physicians is seeking a Medical Physicist for our Miami Valley Hospital North location. The role focuses on maintaining safe and effective patient care related to diagnosis and radiation treatment, with accreditation across all 6 DPN Radiation Oncology Centers.

The Medical Physicist will review treatment plans, supervise planning systems, and provide technical direction for radiation therapy while supporting QA, dosimetry, and equipment commissioning.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in physics, medical physics, nuclear engineering, or biophysics.
  • Certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics or equivalent by ABR/ABMP/CCPM.

Responsibilities

  • Determines relative dosimetry characteristics for various types of radiation and equipment.
  • Final review of treatment plans.
  • Oversees treatment planning system, plans, and isodose verification.
  • Provides linear accelerator beam analysis, periodic calibration and maintenance.
  • Participates in treatment planning, patient monitoring and accuracy of delivery.
  • Leads technology assessment, planning and purchase of major equipment, testing and commissioning of equipment and software.

Education

Master's degree in physics/medical physics/nuclear engineering/biophysics
ABR/ABMP/CCPM certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics

Dayton Physicians is looking to add a Medical Physicist to our Miami Valley Hospital North location!

Summary:

The Medical Physicist maintains optimal, safe and effective patient care with regard to diagnosis and radiation treatment. All 6 DPN Radiation Oncology Centers are ASTRO APEx accredited! The ASTRO Accreditation Program for Excellence (APEx) is an independent radiation oncology practice accreditation program. The program is based on a comprehensive set of sixteen standards of radiation oncology practice, organized around five pillars of patient care.

Schedule:

Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; occasional evening or weekend hours

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Determines relative dosimetry characteristics for various types of radiation (high energy x-rays, electrons, etc.) and radiation- producing equipment;
  • Final review of treatment plans;
  • Oversees treatment planning system, plans, and Isodose verification;
  • Provides technical direction for radiation therapy;
  • Computes and verifies tumor dose and establishes and monitors basic dosage;
  • Provides linear accelerator beam analysis, periodic calibration and maintenance;
  • Assists in evaluation of diagnostic and treatment modalities to maximize patient benefit;
  • Participates in treatment planning, patient monitoring and accuracy of delivery;
  • Participates in patient specific QA;
  • Leads technology assessment, planning and purchase of major equipment. Equipment, software and systems acceptance testing and commissioning;
  • Follow all health care privacy and safety rules and adheres to Dayton Physicians Core Values;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and/ or Experience:

All of the following must be met.

  • The Medical Physicist position requires a Master's degree in physics, medical physics, nuclear engineering, biophysics; doctorate preferred.
  • Certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics or equivalent by the American Board of Radiology, The American Board of Medical Physics, or The Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine.
  • The Medical Physicist position also requires a minimum of two years’ clinical experience in major radiation center.
