Job description

Medical Physicist – Plantation, FL. The Medical Physicist is supported by an experienced full‑time Physics Assistant, supervises the dosimetrists and radiation therapists in treatment planning, and applies laws and theories of physics to radiation medicine under the direction of the director of physics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Calibrate and maintain therapy units, radiation sources, ultrasound systems and other major equipment to ensure efficient and accurate operation.
• Maintain and perform regular quality assurance on treatment planning systems.
• Oversee and assist with external‑beam treatment planning and the use of internally implanted radioactive sources.
• Assist in developing specialized treatment aids and supervise technologists in their fabrication.
• Assist with planning and delivery of HDR treatments.
• Maintain records and correspondence related to quality control, quality assurance, calibration, radiation safety, and compliance with State and Federal regulations and accrediting bodies.
• Perform quality assurance checks of patient charts prior to treatment, weekly, and at the end of treatment to ensure adequate and accurate documentation and dosage.
• Assist engineering with maintenance schedules, component replacement, and necessary modifications and calibration for continued safe operation.
• Participate in planning and support programs such as chart rounds and M&M review to ensure safe use of radiation and radionuclides.
• Support protocol implementation and maintenance for NRG clinical trials, in‑house skin treatment (SkinViva), and automated contouring and VARIAN RapidPlan planning.
• Cooperate with OSHA regulations related to hazardous materials and blood‑borne pathogens.
• Stay current on new scientific methods and technological developments in radiation therapy.
• Provide remote support to team members in other locations as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Certification by the American Board of Radiology or American Board of Medical Physics in Therapeutic Medical Physics.
• License to practice Therapeutic Radiological Physics in the State of Florida, or ability to obtain the license before starting work.
• Strong stereotactic experience is necessary; radiopharmaceutical experience is preferred.
• Effective verbal and written communication with department staff regarding medical physics and radiation safety issues.
• Commitment to collaboration and communication with team members to deliver clinical excellence.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• PhD, DMP, or Master’s Degree in Medical Physics or related field.
• Certification by the American Board of Radiology (ABR), American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP), or Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM).
