Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) — a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, including the award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements
  1. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA Policy.
  2. Degree: Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
  3. Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  4. Residency Training: Completed residency approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) if fully licensed.
  5. Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  6. Preferred Experience: Board Certified/Board Eligible, robotic training with privileges.
  7. Physical Requirements: In accordance with VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
Duties
  • Provide comprehensive urology services, including admitting, evaluating, diagnosing, treating, and consulting on reproductive and genitourinary system illnesses and injuries.
  • Obtain informed consent for invasive procedures, evaluate patient status before surgery, and document thoroughly.
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations, pre-operative assessments, and participate in hospital committees and educational activities.
  • Work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members, respecting dignity and adhering to policies.
  • Perform minor and major surgical procedures, follow postoperative care, and ensure timely documentation.
  • Maintain competence in age-specific care, demonstrate knowledge of aging-related changes, and perform at or above national standards.
  • Work Schedule: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
