Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing requirements, applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards at initial appointment are deemed to meet the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only when recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible)
- Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an approved medical school
- Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
- Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification, in an accredited program (ACGME, AOA, or equivalent)
- Enrolled residents in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) with restrictions
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Preferred: Urology Board certification, experience managing high-volume clinical services, resident oversight experience, and familiarity with ACGME requirements
- Must pass a pre-employment physical exam
Duties
- Manage Urology service under the Section Chief's oversight
- Collaborate with administrative staff and interdisciplinary team members
- Provide comprehensive surgical and clinical services, ensuring policy compliance
- Participate in administrative, clinical, educational, and research activities
- Attend staff meetings, communicate effectively, and prepare reports on adverse patient outcomes
- Maintain clinical documentation, monitor clinic productivity, and oversee quality and safety measures
- Deliver compassionate, appropriate patient care across health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, and end-of-life care
- Apply biomedical, clinical, and social sciences knowledge to patient care and education
- Engage in practice-based learning, professional development, ethical practice, and cultural sensitivity
- Understand healthcare systems and contribute to healthcare improvement
- Teach, supervise trainees, and coordinate educational activities
- Identify, plan, and execute research projects, and publish findings as appropriate
