Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health seeks a Physician Specialist Option C at Chicago-Read Mental Health Center. As a licensed Physician, you will provide psychiatric/medical assessments and treatments, conduct examinations, diagnose, and serve as a member of the treatment team. You will also handle emergency calls, perform psychiatric evaluations, and attend court proceedings.

Essential Functions
  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric/medical assessments and treatments during your shift.
  • Evaluate patient progress and response to treatment, documenting in medical records and writing physician’s orders.
  • Lead and coordinate treatment planning, including reviews, evaluations, and discharge planning.
  • Maintain membership on the Chicago-Read Mental Health Center Medical Staff.
  • Offer psychiatric guidance to non-psychiatric staff and clinicians.
  • Perform additional duties within the scope of the role as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Illinois Physician and Surgeon License.
  • Completion of an approved residency in psychiatry.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of experience evaluating medical care for patients with mental illness.
  • Experience coordinating medical services with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience conducting psychiatric exams.
  • Experience developing and implementing treatment plans.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience preparing detailed medical records and reports.
Conditions of Employment
  • Valid Illinois Controlled Substance License.
  • United States Drug Enforcement Administration Certificate of Registration.
  • Ability to join the medical staff at Chicago-Read within 30 days.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Physical ability to walk, stand, and perform related tasks, including lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to participate in patient management interventions, including restraints.
  • Maintain current Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Testify in court as needed.
  • Serve as Medical Officer of the Day during off-hours, weekends, or holidays in emergencies.
  • Pass background checks and drug screening.
