Open Physician Scientist Faculty Positions – Basic Science Research

University of California San Francisco Department of Medicine

The Department of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco is recruiting physician scientists engaged in basic science research. Candidates must have an MD or an MD and PhD, be board certified in Internal Medicine—preferably with board eligibility or certification in a subspecialty—and must have demonstrated strong potential to conduct independent research of importance and high quality.

Successful candidates will be appointed in a relevant division of the Department at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Medicine, depending on the past experience of the individual, and will be eligible for faculty membership in the UCSF Biomedical Sciences graduate program. Outstanding research space and generous start‑up packages will be provided.

The Division of Hematology and Oncology is not participating in this recruitment; researchers working in those fields should consider the department’s other open searches specifying that specialty.

Salary and Compensation

For positions that are 51% effort or more:

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. The minimum base salary range for this position is $127,000–$333,700. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan, which provides eligibility for additional compensation.

For positions that are 50% effort or less:

See Table 2 for the salary range. A reasonable estimate for this position is $90,700–$238,300.
