OB Coverage Program
The Resource Physician is responsible for enhancing patient safety, providing excellent clinical care, and actively participating in the ongoing education of learners in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Availability: Arrive on time for your shift. If unavoidable delays occur, contact the RP on duty to ensure continuous coverage until your arrival.
Shift Change: Sign out RP-to-RP, including the status of NCHC patients, private patients in Labor and Delivery, Emergency Department status, and pending services.
Contact Information: Provide your preferred contact method to the charge nurse, residents, and unit secretary.
Time Recording: Record start and end times accurately by signing in the duty log book located in the 'Chart Room' in L&D and entering times in API Timecards.
On-site Presence: Remain within Evanston Hospital during your shift and be readily available for emergencies. You may not leave hospital buildings without informing staff.
Leadership and Clinical Supervision: Serve as team leader and resource for L&D staff, monitor clinical courses, and be available for consultation. Schedule procedures outside of shifts for private patients and coordinate coverage for schedule changes.
Clinical Activities: Supervise all clinical care for NCHC patients, evaluate and document patients promptly, provide urgent coverage, assist the team, review and sign EFM records, and document billable services.
Safety and Team Participation: Participate in hemorrhage/rapid response teams, briefings, and debriefings. Serve as team leader for staff in L&D.
Teaching Activities: Participate in resident sign-out, inpatient rounds, and seek teaching opportunities. Attend weekly conferences and participate in resident presentations and evaluations.
