Job Summary
The physician is responsible for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of the health problems presented by patients.
Essential Functions
- Develop and cultivate positive and productive working relationships with other Corewell Health personnel, and promote a culture of safety, teamwork, compassion, collaboration, clarity, curiosity, and courage. Demonstrate a commitment to service and distinctive, personalized care with both internal customers (coworkers, fellow employees, hospital staff, etc.) and external customers (patients, family members, referring physicians/specialists, etc.), while striving to exceed customer expectations.
- Assist in meeting operational, financial, and patient satisfaction goals. Complete all competencies and organizational mandatories annually and in a timely manner.
- Assess and monitor the medical needs of patients. Provide quality medical services in a cost-effective, appropriate manner, ensuring coverage of the caseload at all times.
- Communicate regularly with patients’ families, referring physicians, specialists, nursing staff, and other hospital departments regarding the plan of care and treatment. This includes communication within 24 hours of admission, for any major change in a patient’s condition, and within 24 hours prior to discharge. Document medical services in the patient’s record according to hospital, payor, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in on-call and weekend coverage as required. Engage in value-based reimbursement programs and quality initiatives.
- Participate in Quality Improvement (QI)/Quality Assurance (QA) and peer review activities as requested. Assist in developing policies and procedures related to medical practice and patient care quality.
- Engage in ongoing process improvement activities, including clinical paths and process improvements. Support patient participation in clinical trials and research, assessing clinical safety and efficacy data per Research Institute policies.
- Provide oversight, teaching, and mentorship to fellows, residents, APPs (e.g., physician assistants, advanced practice registered nurses), students, and others providing patient services, including collaboration with medical schools as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Doctorate degree required.
- Medical license (MD or DO) in Michigan required upon hire.
- DEA registration in Michigan required upon hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or ARC within 120 days required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from AHA required within 120 days.
Physical Demands
- Seldom to occasionally lift and carry weights ranging from 5 lbs to over 50 lbs, with specific activities detailed.
- Frequently standing, walking; occasionally performing bending, reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, crawling/kneeling, and handling activities.
- Visual acuity and finger/hand dexterity required.
