Overview

About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), San Antonio, Texas. BAMC is the United States Army’s premier medical institution. Located on Fort Sam Houston, BAMC is a 425‑bed academic medical center and the Department of Defense’s largest facility and only Level 1 trauma center. It also houses the Center for the Intrepid, an outpatient rehabilitation facility. BAMC is staffed by more than 8,000 soldiers, airmen, sailors, civilians, and contractors, providing care to wounded service members and the San Antonio community at large. BAMC has a history dating back to 1879 when the first Post Hospital opened as a small medical dispensary. Subsequent expansions occurred in 1886 and 1908.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate imaging test results for diagnosis, patient care, research, and education.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including diagnostic imaging staff, X‑ray technicians, laboratory staff, and referring clinical providers.
  • Consult with interdisciplinary clinical and research staff regarding findings to assist and direct clinical care plans and achieve research objectives.
  • Consult with the requesting clinical provider before a procedure to decide on the procedure and minimize patient invasion.
  • Provide consultation and reports from the radiologic diagnostic examination, delivering interpretation and diagnosis to clinicians.
  • Provide training in Diagnostic Radiology to residents, other department physicians, and medical students.
  • Assist with formulation of plans and procedures for assigned services; coordinate radiological services with other medical activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

To qualify you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience includes paid, unpaid, and volunteer work through national service programs or other organizations. Basic Requirement For Physician (Radiology‑Diagnostic)

  • Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a U.S. or Canadian institution accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association, Association of American Medical Colleges, Liaison Committee on Medical Education, Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation, or a U.S. Department of Education recognized body. Foreign medical degrees must meet U.S. equivalency standards, evidenced by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates or a successful U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Transcripts or proof of equivalency must be submitted with the application.
  • Licensure: Current, active, full, unrestricted state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory physician license or registration is required. A copy of the license/registration must be submitted.
  • Graduate Training: After obtaining the degree, at least one year of supervised clinical service experience (e.g., one‑year internship or the first year of residency in an accredited hospital) is required. Proof of training program completion must be submitted.

Residency Training for GP‑14

Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in Diagnostic Radiology and have at least four years of equivalent experience and training. Experience cannot replace required residency training.
