Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or licensing requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Existing VA physicians who met the previous qualification standards at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the current basic requirements.
Basic Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible)
- Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
- Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
- Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
- Residents in approved programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under supervision
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pulmonary Care and maintaining professional competency
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Preferred: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Sleep Medicine
- Physical activity includes sitting, standing, walking, heavy lifting, reaching, and bending
- Must be emotionally and mentally stable to perform duties
Duties
- Provide inpatient and outpatient pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine services
- Educational responsibilities for fellows, residents, and medical students
- Possess a full, unrestricted license and qualify for an academic appointment at Albany Medical College
- Subspecialty certifications are desirable
- Attend and lead ICU teams, provide critical care consultations, and participate in teaching and mentoring
- Engage in administrative activities and serve on medical center committees
- Offer consultations for pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine
- Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., with rotating on-call duties
