The Facility - San Francisco VA Medical Center

The San Francisco VA Health Care System provides health services to Veterans through the SFVAMC and six community-based outpatient clinics in Santa Rosa, Eureka, Ukiah, Clearlake, San Bruno, and downtown San Francisco. They have a longstanding history of conducting innovative research, establishing advanced medical programs, and providing compassionate care. The Medical Center is a 1a complexity level facility with 112 beds and a 120-bed Community Living Center. Primary, mental health, and specialty care are available at outpatient clinics. The Medical Center has been affiliated with UCSF School of Medicine for nearly 60 years, with all physicians jointly recruited by SFVAMC and UCSF.

SFVAMC hosts several National Centers of Excellence, including epilepsy treatment, cardiac surgery, PTSD, HIV, and renal dialysis. It also features nationally recognized programs like the Parkinson's Disease Research, Education, and Clinical Center; Hepatitis C Resource Center; Mental Illness Research and Education Clinical Center; and the Western Pacemaker and AICD Surveillance Program. It is designated as one of only seven VA Centers of Excellence in Primary Care Education and has a Community Resource and Referral Center to serve homeless and at-risk Veterans. The center was the first VA to perform MRI-guided deep brain stimulation surgery and is among a few performing state-of-the-art transcatheter aortic valve replacement procedures.

SFVAMC has the largest funded research program in the Veterans Health Administration with $81 million in FY 2019. It is equipped for studies using whole-body MRI and spectroscopy and is the site of VA's National Center for the Imaging of Neurodegenerative Diseases.
