Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Eligibility requirements must be met per VHA policy, and applications submitted within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion may allow for tentative referral and selection, but employment is contingent upon meeting all requirements. Current VA employees who met initial appointment standards are deemed qualified.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible)
• Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
• Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
• Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
• Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who are fully licensed but only appointed on an intermittent or fee basis and are not considered independent practitioners
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Additional requirements include a selective placement/quality ranking factor, physical requirements (light lifting, visual use of computer), environmental factors, and teamwork skills

The physician will provide mental health care within the Boise VA Healthcare system, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, supervising students and residents, and participating in tele-psychiatry. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, providing treatment, ordering tests, consulting with other providers, and maintaining clinical documentation. The role may involve teaching, attending conferences, and participating in educational activities.
