Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible, in accordance with VA policy.
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
- Completion of residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency must be approved by ACGME, AOA, or equivalent, with at least five years of verified practice in the U.S. for non-US residencies.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed physicians and may only work intermittently or on a fee basis. PRPs are not independent practitioners and work under supervision.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Preferred: Board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine. More info at https://www.va.gov/ohrm/QualificationStandards/
- Must pass a pre-employment physical.
Duties
- Manage medical care for a panel of Veterans in Primary Care.
- Document and utilize electronic medical records effectively.
- Lead the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) and collaborate with team members.
- Ensure safety and quality of Veteran care, meet performance metrics, and participate in quality improvement activities.
- Maintain necessary licensures and certifications.
- Adhere to ethical and professional standards and facility policies.
