Job description

Summary

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) staff physicians provide physiatry services to eligible Veterans at the VA Portland Health Care System, including the main Portland Campus, Vancouver campus, and other CBOCs as designated.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only if qualified citizens are unavailable)
  • Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
  • Current unrestricted medical or surgical license
  • Completed residency training approved by the VA or equivalent
  • Enrolled residents in approved programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs)
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written)
  • Physical and visual requirements as specified
Preferred Candidate:

1 year experience performing EMGs and interest or experience in inpatient rehab at a CARF-accredited unit.

Physical Requirements

Moderate lifting and carrying, pushing, reaching, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, bending, climbing, operation of vehicles, visual and auditory capabilities, mental and emotional stability, peripheral vision, environmental factors, and working conditions as detailed above.

Duties
  • Provide physiatry care on inpatient rehabilitation units, including night and weekend call from home
  • Consultative physiatry care on inpatient and skilled nursing facility units
  • Outpatient physiatry consultative care, including pain clinics, prosthetics/orthotics, poly-trauma/TBI, and spinal cord injury clinics
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as electromyography and spasticity management
  • Teach residents and medical students, supervise trainees
  • Participate in departmental administration, committees, and teaching functions
  • Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30/8:00 am to 4:00/4:30 pm
