Job description

Position Overview

Multnomah County Health Department seeks Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Physicians for full‑time, part‑time, per diem and temporary positions across county community health centers. The role provides comprehensive primary medical care with emphasis on prevention, health equity and culturally competent care for a predominantly low‑income, multilingual population.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions, conduct comprehensive health assessments, order and interpret diagnostic tests, devise treatment plans and prescribe medications.
  • Use panel‑based information technology tools to prioritize proactive care, including preventive health screenings and chronic disease care management.
  • Follow up on utilization issues (ED, hospital admissions) and maintain documentation supporting quality health delivery.
  • Make referrals to specialty and rehabilitative services, documenting medical necessity.
  • Provide clinical consultation to Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, nurses and support staff; prioritize and direct care team activities.
  • Coordinate with Behavioral Health providers to integrate care for overall patient health and experience.
  • Cover clinical colleagues during absences, participate in conferences, committees and events to share and improve public health processes.
  • Maintain accurate electronic documentation, complete billing codes, and ensure full record sharing with the team.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited medical school with at least one year of residency in a primary‑care setting.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
  • Valid physician license to practice medicine in the State of Oregon and ability to obtain credentialing approval.
  • CPR certification.
  • COVID‑19 vaccination or approved medical/exemptional exception by the specified deadline.
