Summary

The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System in Cleveland, OH is seeking one full-time MD/DO Service Chief to supervise the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service. Eligible candidates must be board certified in either Anatomic Pathology or Clinical Pathology and have five years of prior clinical experience. Prior clinical administrative experience is preferred.

Duties

The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System in Cleveland, OH is seeking one full-time MD/DO Service Chief to supervise the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service. The Chief, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service (PALMS) at VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System (VANEOHS), provides leadership and oversight for clinical and administrative operations across all PALMS programs, providers, and sites of care. The incumbent is a Board-Certified Physician responsible for and providing operational and supervisory oversight for over a large interprofessional service of over 120 clinical and administrative personnel across eighteen sites of care in northeast Ohio. The Service Chief collaborates with the Laboratory Manager, Administrative Officer, and technologists to oversee clinical and administrative functions, and with outpatient clinics, inpatient units, and the Comprehensive Cancer Center to ensure coordinated care.

Operational and Administrative Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining full responsibility for all professional, management, and administrative aspects of PALMS.
  • Developing and maintaining annual budgets for resources, staffing, training, and travel.
  • Overseeing quality and efficiency of clinical programs and research activities.
  • Implementing administrative processes based on productivity and clinical needs.
  • Monitoring clinical performance and ensuring credentialing and professional competence.
  • Ensuring adherence to standards by accrediting bodies and regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting research and quality initiatives.
  • Serving on committees and providing consultation to other programs.
  • Developing proposals to improve care, access, and efficiency.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment:

Qualifications

To qualify, candidates must meet basic requirements including:

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Degree of MD/DO from an accredited school.
  • Full, unrestricted medical license.
  • Completed residency training approved by VA or equivalent experience.
  • Board certification in Pathology.
  • Proficiency in English.

Preferred experience includes five years of clinical practice and progressive leadership roles.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform duties in a clinical setting, including lifting, reaching, standing, and visual requirements.

Education

MD/DO from an accredited school, with verification for foreign graduates as needed.
