Summary

The James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Johnson City, TN, is seeking a Pathologist (Hematopathology) for the Path and Lab Service Line. The incumbent will report directly to the Service Chief of Path and Lab. Board Certification in Hematopathology is highly desired.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial qualification standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

• Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required; non-citizens only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited.
• Education: MD or equivalent from an accredited school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
• License: Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
• Residency: Completed approved residency training in a core specialty leading to board eligibility. Approved residencies include ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs with at least five years of verified practice in the U.S.
• Enrolled Residents: Eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), fully licensed but only on a fee or intermittent basis, under supervision.
• Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Preferred Experience: Board Certification in Hematopathology is highly desired.

Duties

• Position open until filled; applications reviewed biweekly; may close earlier if filled.
• Participate in Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology, Hematopathology (bone marrow, blood, lymph nodes), and Clinical Pathology.
• Teaching pathology residents in clinical and anatomical pathology is required due to affiliation with East Tennessee State University; prior teaching experience is preferred.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
