Summary
The Iowa City Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care System (VAHCS) is seeking a Hospice & Palliative Medical Director for a full-time appointment within the Rehabilitation and Extended Care service line.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion should be noted in the application; applicants may be tentatively selected but not hired until all requirements are fulfilled. VA physicians previously employed under the old qualification standards are deemed to meet current basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine from an approved school.
- Current, full, and unrestricted medical or surgical license in the U.S.
- Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification, in an accredited program.
- Enrolled residents in approved programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and work under supervision.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Board Certification in Hospice and Palliative Care (additional requirement).
- Preferred: Fellowship training and 5 years' experience in hospice and palliative care.
Duties
- Lead clinical care for Veterans with serious illnesses, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Mentor and supervise team providers; serve as a consultant.
- Implement integrated symptom management and utilize complementary health therapies.
- Provide care via face-to-face, VA Video Connect, and Clinical Video Telehealth modalities.
- Adhere to policies, complete electronic records, and meet performance goals.
- Work within privileges unless in emergencies; perform other duties as assigned.
