Summary

This position is located at one of the various Indian Health Service Hospitals or Clinics under the Navajo Area Office. The position serves as a technical expert in Orthopedic Surgery; the incumbent is responsible for diagnosis, care, and treatment of patients.

Duties

1. Interviews and examines patients, reviews medical history, and requests or performs diagnostic tests.
2. Makes diagnoses, provides treatment, or arranges for specialized care or referrals.
3. Provides urgent and emergency care as needed.
4. Refers patients to appropriate medical or government facilities.
5. Responds to emergency interventions in consultation with other medical departments.
6. Serves as an expert in the specialty and may have administrative duties.

Requirements

• Subject to a probationary period.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
• Must not have disqualifying criminal records.
• Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required.
• Immunizations required or exemption requested.
• Must obtain and maintain clinical privileges and licensure.
• On-call hours or standby duty may be required.
• Pass E-Verify employment check.
• Work on a rotational basis including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Set up direct deposit for payments.
• Background investigation and fingerprint check required.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

• Degree: MD, DO, or equivalent from an accredited school.
• Foreign medical degree must be equivalent and certified.
• Licensure: Active, unrestricted medical license.
• Graduate training: At least 1 year of supervised clinical experience.

Additional Qualifications

For GS-15, 5 years of specialized graduate training or equivalent experience in Orthopedic Surgery.
