Job Summary
Job Duties

Geisinger Medical Center (GMC), Danville, Pennsylvania, is seeking a BC/BE, fellowship-trained Cornea Specialist to join the Department of Ophthalmology. This position offers an opportunity to work in a well-established practice with multi-specialty Ophthalmologists and Optometrists.

About this position:

  • Utilize advanced diagnostic technologies such as FA, Fundus Camera, HVF, Goldman Field, IOL Master, Immersion, OCT, Pachymetry, UBM, Idesign, anterior segment OCT, and Topography.
  • Perform treatments including SLT Laser, YAG Laser, Argon Laser, and excimer laser.
  • Work across two surgical facilities—one at the outpatient surgery center and the other at GMC main campus.
  • Receive support from Physician Assistants and CRNPs.
  • Operate in a practice setting with 50 exam rooms at the outpatient surgery center.
  • Share call duties (home call), approximately 1 in 8 weeks, supporting residents.
  • Benefit from a large referral base from onsite Optometrists, local Ophthalmologists, and satellite physicians.
  • Opportunity to perform procedures such as cross-linking, LASIK, DSEK, DMEK, and to develop new programs, conduct research, and teach residents in a tertiary referral center.

Position Details
  • Interview patients to gather information on symptoms, medical histories, and family histories.
  • Perform and interpret diagnostic tests as needed.
  • Diagnose and develop treatment plans for injuries and illnesses, prescribe medications, and maintain detailed records.

Work is primarily in clinical and office environments. Employees are expected to meet all job-specific obligations and organizational policies. Additional department-specific competencies will be part of orientation and essential for job performance.

An ophthalmologist provides comprehensive eye and vision care, diagnosing, monitoring, and treating ocular and visual disorders, including those affecting the eye, eyelids, orbit, and visual pathways.


Education: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (Required)
Experience: Relevant experience preferred
Certification and License: Licensed Medical Doctor in Pennsylvania
