Job summary

Gateway Regional Medical Center is seeking an Occupational Health Physician to join our Occupational Health Services team. The role includes medical evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of employee health issues, with emphasis on fitness for duty, work-related injuries, and regulatory compliance.

You will lead the drug screening program oversight, act as MRO, manage Workers' Compensation cases, and guide leadership on health and safety policies.

We are seeking an Occupational Health Physician to join our Occupational Health Services team. This position provides medical evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and consultation related to employee health and workplace safety. The physician evaluates fitness for duty, manages work-related injuries and illnesses, supports Workers' Compensation case management, and provides guidance to leadership on occupational health, workplace safety, and regulatory compliance.

What You'll Do

• Conduct pre-employment, periodic, and return-to-work medical examinations.
• Evaluate employee health concerns related to workplace exposures and conditions.
• Diagnose and treat work-related injuries and illnesses.
• Provide medical oversight of the Occupational Health drug screening program.
• Serve as the organization's Medical Review Officer (MRO) for applicable drug testing programs.
• Review and interpret drug testing results and conduct required MRO interviews and determinations.
• Manage Workers' Compensation cases and provide appropriate follow-up and return-to-work recommendations.
• Develop and support workplace health, wellness, prevention, and health surveillance programs.
• Evaluate workplace health risks and provide recommendations regarding preventive measures.
• Advise leadership regarding occupational health policies, workplace safety, fitness for duty, and regulatory requirements.
• Support compliance with applicable OSHA, ADA, FMLA, and other occupational health requirements.
• Provide education related to ergonomics, workplace safety, stress management, and injury prevention.
• Maintain accurate and timely medical and occupational health documentation.

What We're Looking For

• Medical degree (MD or DO) required.
• Board certification in Occupational Medicine required.
• Current MRO qualification/certification meeting applicable federal requirements for DOT-regulated drug testing programs required.
• Clinical experience focused on occupational health preferred.
• Knowledge of occupational health regulations, workplace safety standards, and preventive medicine principles.
• Experience managing occupational health cases.
• Experience developing or supporting workplace health programs.
• Strong communication and advisory skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate with employees, leadership, healthcare professionals, and regulatory agencies.
