Summary

The Millington VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic - Millington - TN is recruiting for a Neurology Physician to serve as a full-time Specialty Care physician. The position is accountable to the Chief of Specialty Care for assuring the most effective delivery of state‑of‑the‑art care while meeting or exceeding compliance standards.

Qualifications

• United States citizenship. Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy.
• A Doctor of Medicine (MD) or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from a school approved by the VA for the year in which the degree was completed.
• Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
• Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Residency training options: (1) Program approved by ACGME or AOA listed for the year of completion; (2) One year of post‑medical‑school training (internship or transitional year) approved by ACGME/AOA followed by two years of independent practice; (3) Non‑U.S. residency followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent U.S. practice related to the position, including U.S. fellowships if applicable.
• Administratively, residents in accredited programs who meet the basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs). PRPs must hold a full license, be appointed on an intermittent basis, and have a scope of practice that allows certain restricted duties under supervision.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Physical requirements: moderate lifting (15‑25 lb), moderate carrying (15‑25 lb), straight pulling up to 2‑3 h, pushing up to 2‑3 h, reaching above shoulder, walking up to 1‑2 h, kneeling 1‑2 h, repeated bending 1‑2 h, standing 44‑6 h, rapid mental and muscular coordination, near and far vision, depth perception, color perception, hearing (aid permitted).

Duties

• Clinical practice, supervising and teaching neurology fellows, residents, and medical students.
• Providing consultation on neurological disease states for diagnosis and treatment in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Sharing attending call responsibilities with other neurologists, covering nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Rounding with fellows, residents, and medical students in inpatient settings.
• Leading and managing the neurology team, including fellows, residents, medical students, pharmacists, mid‑level providers, and other staff, while on inpatient service or in clinical settings.
• Collaboration and supervision by the Section Chief of Neurology.
• Recognizing patients appropriate for referral or consultation with collaborating physicians.
• Conducting consults with collaborating physicians via personal, telephone, or electronic media contact.
• Co‑signing resident and student notes for admission history, physical examination, and admission plan for new patients, as well as daily care/progress notes for established patients.
• Electronic co‑signing of discharge notes and discharge summaries; writing discharge orders in concurrence with the physician.
• Clinical assessment and evaluation of inpatients and outpatients.
• Health‑care management of assigned veteran patients with acute and chronic illnesses.
• Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic studies.
• Ordering consultation and referrals for inpatients and outpatients.
• Patient follow‑up as appropriate.
• Health promotion and disease prevention.
• Patient, family, and staff education and counseling.
• Clinical research (must have separate research approval).
• Administrative activities, including performance‑improvement activities, research, and non‑clinical tasks as assigned.
• Exhibiting leadership in initializing changes to inpatient care programs based on current concepts and findings from research and studies.
• Staying informed on developments in disease management and treatment through continuing medical education.
• Performing any other duties as assigned by the supervising physician or their designee within scope of practice.

• Pay: Competitive salary with annual performance bonus and regular salary increases.
