Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed if qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Completion of residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency must be approved by ACGME, AOA, or deemed equivalent by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
  • Residents in approved programs are eligible for appointment as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Additional Requirements: Board certification and/or eligibility.
  • Physical Requirements include heavy lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, use of fingers, walking, standing, bending, rapid coordination, near vision, and hearing.
Duties
  • This position offers a comprehensive total rewards package including:

  • Physician duties include administering anesthesia, monitoring patients, managing anesthetic plans, performing procedures, evaluating patients, and teaching residents and students. Work schedule is Monday-Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with on-call responsibilities on some weekdays and weekends.
