Summary

The James J. Peters VA Medical Center, a highly academically affiliated VA facility, is recruiting Hospitalists for the Specialty Care Service. This position is available for Board Certified Physicians with excellent teaching, communication, and Quality Management skills. The Hospitalist plays a central role in patient care and education on the inpatient wards and will be involved in enhancing the quality and experience of patient care.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship
• Degree of doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine from an approved school
• Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
• Completed residency training approved by the VA or equivalent
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Board Certified or Board Eligible (preferred)
• Physical requirements include lifting, pushing, reaching, walking, standing, and visual and auditory acuity

Duties

• Provide inpatient clinical care to medicine service patients
• Coordinate admissions, daily care, and discharges with proper documentation
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and clinical care coordination
• Provide evidence-based inpatient care and consultative services
• Collaborate with ED, specialty providers, primary care, nursing, and social work teams
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives
• Provide resident education through case discussions and lectures
• Work with the Internal Medicine Residency Program to ensure high-quality teaching
• Other duties as assigned
