Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Duties

The hospitalist provides inpatient clinical care to referred patients, coordinating closely with the nurse director and hospital departments to ensure high-quality patient care, timely discharges, and effective communication with PCPs, patients, families, specialists, and hospital staff. The hospitalist leads the interdisciplinary team to improve efficiency and facilitate continuum of care, including general adult medicine, consults, critical care, and management of patients with comorbidities.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Providing compassionate, patient-centered care, treating each patient and referring physician as a valued customer.
• Developing positive working relationships with the nurse director and promoting teamwork.
• Conducting daily rounds on all referred patients.
• Communicating with families, physicians, and hospital staff regarding patient care.
• Collaborating on early discharge planning with the interdisciplinary team.
• Maintaining good relationships with hospital departments and administration.
• Exceeding customer expectations through personalized service.
• Participating in hospital quality improvement activities and committees.
• Supporting hospital business development and marketing efforts.
• Serving as a liaison to maximize communication about the hospitalist program.
• Ensuring accurate and timely documentation, including medical records and billing.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only if no qualified citizens are available.

Qualifications

Must meet basic requirements: US citizenship, MD degree from an approved school, valid medical license, completed residency, and proficiency in English. Preferred: ABIM certification.

Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution. Foreign graduates must verify ECFMG certification.
