Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The approval amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined after review by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office. Learn more.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing may be considered, but appointment is contingent upon meeting all requirements. Current VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards are deemed qualified.

  • Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens are unavailable.
  • Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school.
  • Current, unrestricted medical or surgical license in the U.S.
  • Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Enrolled residents in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who are fully licensed but only appointed on an intermittent or fee basis, and are not considered independent practitioners.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements include walking, standing, sitting for long periods, bending, lifting, and turning.
Duties
  • Provide comprehensive care to adults with blood disorders and cancer in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Perform history taking, physical exams, test interpretation, diagnostic procedures, patient counseling, and differential diagnosis.
  • Supervise medical residents and fellows; participate in teaching at the bedside, clinics, and didactic sessions.
  • Affiliated with the Division of Hematology Oncology at the University of Nebraska Omaha.
  • Board Certified/Eligible in Internal Medicine and Hematology and/or Oncology; experience in clinical research and trials preferred.
  • Work schedule: Monday-Friday, hours to be determined.
  • Dual appointment with the University of Nebraska or Creighton University/CHI; expected to work at VA and university facilities accordingly.
