Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify, you must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed qualified.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens are unavailable)
- Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved school
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
- Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
- Enrolled residents in approved programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and only appointed on an intermittent or fee basis
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Board Certified or Board eligible in General Surgery
- Physical requirements include visual acuity, hearing, speech, manual dexterity, and ability to perform physical tasks and respond to various patient care situations
Duties
- This is an open continuous announcement until July 14, 2025, with initial application cut-off on May 19, 2025, and subsequent cut-offs every 5 days
- Qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available
