Summary
This position is located at various Indian Health Service Hospitals or Clinics under the Navajo Area Office. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a technical expert in Family Practice, providing diagnosis, care, and treatment for patients of all ages.

Note: This is an Open Continuous announcement; applicants will be referred when vacancies occur.

Duties
  1. Practice medicine or provide direct services to patients involving diagnostic, preventative, or therapeutic services in hospitals and clinics.
  2. Prescribe or administer treatments, therapies, medications, vaccinations, and other medical care to treat and prevent illnesses, diseases, or injuries.
  3. Order, perform, interpret tests, and analyze records to diagnose patient conditions.
  4. Monitor patient progress and re-evaluate treatments as needed. Explain procedures and discuss test results with patients.
  5. Coordinate with nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and other health professionals to provide comprehensive health services.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment

  • Probationary period may be required.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Position involves contact with Indian children; must meet legal requirements regarding criminal history.
  • Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required.
  • Immunizations (Measles, Rubella, Flu) compliance or exemption required.
  • On-call or standby duty may be required.
  • Must pass E-Verify and background checks.
  • Set up direct deposit for payments.
Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate sufficient experience and education to perform the duties.

Basic Requirements:

  • Degree: MD, DO, or equivalent from an accredited U.S. or Canadian school.
  • Foreign degree: Must demonstrate equivalency through certification or exams.
  • Licensure: Current, unrestricted medical license.
  • Graduate training: At least 1 year of supervised clinical experience (internship/residency).

Additional Qualifications for GS-15: 5 years of graduate training or equivalent experience in Family Medicine.

Applicants expected to complete a professional training program within 9 months should include a letter confirming their expected completion date.

Selective Factor: Board certification in the specialty or active pursuit thereof. Verification required.

Education

Submit transcripts or course list. Unofficial transcripts accepted initially; official required before hire. Accreditation must be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
