Summary

This position is located at one of the various Indian Health Service Hospitals or Clinics under the Navajo Area Office. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a technical expert within the specialty area of Family Practice, providing diagnosis, care, and treatment of patients of all ages.

Note: This is an Open Continuous announcement; applicants will be referred when vacancies occur.

Duties

  • Responsible for the practice of medicine or direct services to patients involving diagnostic, preventative, or therapeutic services in hospitals and clinics.
  • Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat and prevent illness, disease, or injury.
  • Order, perform, interpret tests, and analyze records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients' conditions.
  • Monitor patient progress and re-evaluate treatment as necessary. Explain procedures and discuss test results or treatments with patients.
  • Coordinate work with Nurses, Pharmacists, Social Workers, and other health professionals in providing health services.

  • May be subject to a probationary period.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Position covered by Public Law 101-630; must ensure no disqualifying criminal history.
  • Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required.
  • Adherence to immunization requirements or exemption submission.
  • Must obtain and maintain medical staff privileges and licensure.
  • On-call hours or standby duty may be required.
  • Must pass E-Verify check.
  • Set up direct deposit for payments.
  • Background investigation and fingerprint check required; continued employment contingent on clearance.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

  • Degree: MD or DO from an accredited U.S. or Canadian school.
  • Foreign medical degree: must demonstrate equivalency via certification or exam.
  • Licensure: Current, full, unrestricted medical license.
  • Graduate training: At least 1 year of supervised clinical experience (internship, residency, or fellowship).

Additional Qualifications

  • 4 years of graduate training or equivalent experience in Family Medicine/Practice.
  • Board Certification in the specialty or active pursuit of certification.
