Summary

This position is located at one of the various Indian Health Service Hospitals or Clinics under the Navajo Area Office. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a technical expert within the specialty area of Family Practice, providing diagnosis, care, and treatment of patients of all ages.

Note: This is an Open Continuous announcement; applicants will be referred when vacancies occur.

Duties
  1. Responsible for the practice of medicine or direct services to patients, including diagnostic, preventative, or therapeutic services in hospitals and clinics.
  2. Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat and prevent illness, disease, or injury.
  3. Order, perform, interpret tests, and analyze records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients' conditions.
  4. Monitor progress of patients' conditions and re-evaluate treatment as necessary. Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
  5. Coordinate work with Nurses, Pharmacists, Social Workers, and other allied health professionals in the provision of health services.

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • This position involves contact or control over Indian children, and the agency must ensure candidates have not committed disqualifying crimes.
  • Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required.
  • Adherence to immunization requirements or exemption requests are necessary.
  • Must obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges and licensure requirements.
  • On-call hours or standby duty may be required.
  • Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Set up direct deposit for salary payments.
  • Pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation are required.
Qualifications

Basic Requirements

Degree: MD, DO, or equivalent from an accredited U.S. or Canadian school. Foreign degrees must be recognized as equivalent.

Licensure: Current, active, unrestricted medical license in the U.S.

Graduate Training: At least 1 year of supervised clinical experience post-degree, such as internship or residency, accredited by recognized bodies.

Additional Qualifications

For GS-14, 4 years of graduate training or equivalent experience in Family Medicine/Practice is required.

Applicants must meet the specific board certification or active pursuit of certification as a selective factor.

Education
