Summary

The mission of VA Northern Indiana Health Care System (VANIHCS) is to provide coordinated, compassionate, and comprehensive quality primary care, mental health, surgical, intensive, and extended care to Veterans in a timely, accessible, and cost-effective manner. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements. All requirements must be met by the closing date: 06/06/2025.

Basic Requirements
  1. United States Citizenship
  2. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens, per VA Policy
  3. Education
  4. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution in allopathic or osteopathic medicine
  5. The degree must have been obtained from an institution accredited by the LCME or COCA in the year the degree was granted
  6. For foreign medical graduates, verification with ECFMG is required
  7. Licensure and Registration
  8. Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  9. Maintain current registration if required for ongoing licensure
  10. Residency Training
  11. Completion of residency training approved by the VA or equivalent, leading to eligibility for board certification
  12. English Language Proficiency
  13. Proficiency in spoken and written English
Preferred Experience/Qualifications

Board Certified or Board Eligible with 2-3 years of Emergency Medicine experience. Reference: VA Regulations - VA Handbook 5005 - Part II - Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.

Duties
  • Manage clinical care of Veterans in the Emergency Room Department - Fort Wayne IN - NIHCS
  • Perform patient assessment, treatment, care planning, and coordination
  • Include clinical duties, code team leadership, and performance improvement initiatives
  • Hours: TBD based on shift
  • Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized
  • Compressed/Flexible hours: Not authorized
  • Virtual position: No
  • Education Debt Reduction Program: Not authorized
  • Paid Time Off: 50-55 days annually (including leave, sick leave, holidays, and CME leave)
