Overview

Bridgeport Hospital – Bridgeport, Connecticut

Bridgeport Hospital is seeking a Board‑Certified/Board‑Eligible Emergency Medicine physician to join our team as a nocturnist. This role focuses on providing high‑quality, patient‑centered care during overnight hours in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity emergency department.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive emergency medical care for patients presenting with acute illness or injury during overnight shifts.
• Perform timely assessment, diagnosis, stabilization, and treatment across a broad spectrum of conditions.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including advanced practice providers, nursing, and specialty consultants.
• Ensure accurate and efficient documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to departmental protocols and patient safety standards.

Schedule & Environment

• Primarily overnight shifts.
• High‑volume, community‑based hospital with access to specialty services.
• Supportive team environment with APP and subspecialty coverage.

Responsibilities

• Rapid evaluation and stabilization of critical conditions involving adult, pediatric, medical, surgical, gynecologic, and obstetrical illnesses and trauma‑related injuries. Resuscitation of acutely ill and injured patients in all ED clinical areas: the main ED, Fast Track, and ED Crisis.
• Obtain a complete patient history, perform a vectored physical examination, and document findings accurately and timely.
• Clinically efficient evaluation of an appropriate number of patients per shift, managing multiple patients simultaneously, and selecting the next patient to be seen based on severity.

Qualifications

Education

Graduation from an accredited medical school with an M.D., D.O., or MBBS degree and completion of an approved Emergency Medicine training program with board certification or board eligibility in Emergency Medicine, or completion of an approved Pediatric Residency training program with acute care experience, board certification or board eligibility in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, or completion of a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship training. Board certification must be completed within year one of employment.

Experience

One year of related experience preferred.

Licensure

M.D. or D.O. degree

Special Skills

Management of acutely ill and injured patients of all ages; proficiency in basic and advanced cardiac life support, advanced trauma life support, basic life support, and pediatric advanced life support courses; proficiency with departmental computer for patient management, order entry, patient tracking, laboratory, radiology, and medical record retrieval; licensed as an M.D. in Connecticut; certificates to dispense controlled substances by the federal Drug Enforcement Agency and a permit from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Affairs.
